Sciatica Pain Management

Sciatica is pain that stems from the sciatic nerve, which is a large nerve from the low back down the back of each of the legs. The pain itself is not a disorder, rather a symptom of another underlying issues which could be spinal stenosis, pinched nerve, herniated disc, bone spurs, or facet hypertrophy (overgrowth of bone). Tumors or diabetes can also cause sciatica symptoms. Your provider will order diagnostic tests, which can include a MRI to determine the cause for sciatica symptoms. In addition, they may also review your X-rays, CT scans and assess your sciatica severity.

Sciatica pain can feel like shooting pain, burning or cramping. Usually one side is affected and worsens with prolonged sitting, bending, twisting even coughing. Numbness can also occur in the same pattern.

Some individuals due to their risk factors may be predisposed for sciatica symptoms, these health issues include: occupations where you carry heavy items, consistent twisting of the back and diabetes.
